Species and antimicrobial susceptibility of glucose nonfermenting gram-negative bacilli (NFB) isolated from clinical specimens at Wonju Christian Hospital during the period of July 1989 to Jun 1990 were analyzed and the following results were obtained.
1. NFB were isolated from 18.8% of sputum, 15.0% of pus, 6.4% of urine, 4.1% of throat and 0.8% of blood specimens.
2. Among those isolates, 50.1% were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 17.8% were Acinetobacter, Alcaligenes, P. cepaica and P. fluorescens were 6.0%, 5.4%, 4.9%, respectively. Other bacteria were rarely isolated.
3. The monthly isolation rate was high during the April to October (8.1~10.5%), low during the November to March (5.8~7.7%).
4. Many of the isolates showed resistance to various antimicrobials. Although there were variations depending on the species, amikacin and piperacillin showed more antibacterial activities than other antimicrobials.
